Why Nigeria?
Nigeria has one of the biggest economies in Africa, with approximately 184 million inhabitants made up of 500 ethnic groups, of which the three largest are Igbo,Hausa, and Yoruba.Although Nigeria is the 12th largest producer of petroleum in the world and the 8th largest exporter, the country also faces some of the world’s biggest development challenges.Lack of access to quality education for many of its poorer inhabitants is one of the countries ongoing struggles, with 1 in 3 children not in school. Many of those that do attend face large class sizes, lack of materials and poorly trained teachers.Lack of access to education is even more apparent in rural villages. Our aim is to help address this issue through our work with the Thamani Centre.
